Growing Academic Imagination Now (GAIN)
A Program for Early-Stage Faculty Development and Advancement

Program Description
This one-year program will enhance academic professional identity, knowledge and skills for HMSOM Assistant Professors (MD, PhD, other terminal degree) in rank for < five years who will participate in monthly workshops and work with a senior academic mentor. Completion of a scholarly project is optional.

Goals
This program will meet these goals within a three year period:

  • Enhance knowledge and skills required for junior faculty to advance and thrive in the academic environment, as measured by academic productivity and faculty promotion.
  • Support retention of HMSOM junior faculty, as measured by retention. 
  • Expand academic mentoring and collaboration departments, clinical sites and faculty rank.

Learning Objectives
Participants will:

  • Identify core values and professional goals
  • Enhance your professional identity and leadership skills.
  • Understand academic medical center structure and funds flow
  • Learn about US health policy and financial budgeting within medical institutions
  • Master academic promotion processes
  • Effectively allocate professional effort
  • Navigate ethical and social challenges in academic medical environments.
  • Optimize the presentation of academic documents and web-based profiles 
  • Develop literature research and writing skills
  • Enhance presentation and communication skills

Application Requirements 

  • Assistant Professor Faculty Rank (any degree, Department) < 5 yrs 
  • Curriculum vitae (HMSOM format)
  • Personal Statement. 
  • Academic Chairman’s Letter of Recommendation
