The M.I.N.D.S. Program (Medical Internship Navigating and Discovering Science)

The M.I.N.D.S. Program provides high school juniors and seniors and premedical students with early exposure to the health professions. Designed to create a path towards medical and health professions education, M.I.N.D.S. creates hands-on learning and mentoring. The program enhances scholars' understanding of the medical field and healthcare in New Jersey. M.I.N.D.S. plays a crucial role in shaping the next generation of healthcare professionals and addressing the workforce shortage in healthcare careers.

Design

The program offers accepted scholars a structured curriculum that includes:

  • CPR/BLS Certification
  • SAT Prep and Learning Strategies
  • Medical Simulation
  • Workshops by healthcare professionals
  • Clinical Shadowing experiences at hospitals learning about various healthcare professions
  • Completing research projects addressing community health needs

The program culminates in a research showcase, allowing students to present their projects to HMSOM faculty, students and staff and family and friends.

Goals

  • Increase interns’ knowledge of clinical and research careers
  • Enhance mentorship-driven networking
  • Improve confidence in academic skills
  • Foster a pipeline of well-prepared candidates for medical and health profession school and careers in health professions.
