Hoffman, Terlecky Named Vice Deans of the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine

Two members of the dean’s cabinet, who have been part of the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine since its inception, have been named vice deans of the School. 

Miriam Hoffman, M.D., has been named the vice dean for Academic Affairs, and Stanley R. Terlecky, Ph.D., was named vice dean for  Research and Medical Sciences.

“These two leaders have been crucial to the development of our medical school,” said Jeffrey Boscamp, M.D., interim dean. “Drs. Hoffman and Terlecky bring expertise which has helped shape our success in just a few short years.”

Boscamp, previously the sole vice dean, was named interim dean in January, in the wake of the sudden passing of Bonita Stanton, M.D., the founding dean of the school. 

Hoffman was previously the senior associate dean for Academic Affairs. She has led the development, implementation, and continuous enhancement of the medical education program. Hoffman’s goal is to align medical education curricula with health outcomes of populations and individuals, including addressing health inequities. 

Previously, she was at the Boston University School of Medicine for 13 years, where she held many educational and leadership roles.

Hoffman has spent her clinical career working with patients from diverse backgrounds in underserved settings, including safety net hospitals and Community Health Centers. Hoffman completed her undergraduate education at the Johns Hopkins University, received her medical degree from Cornell University Medical College, and completed her residency at the New York Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Family Medicine Residency.

Terlecky previously worked alongside Stanton at the Wayne State University School of Medicine where he served as associate dean of Biomedical Graduate Programs and director of the Interdisciplinary Biomedical Sciences curriculum. Committed to biomedical education innovation, he has developed and launched unique training programs for both medical and graduate students. He is recognized as an outstanding teacher, mentor, and student advocate.

Dr. Terlecky is an active and accomplished researcher and biotechnology entrepreneur whose work has focused on understanding peroxisome biology in human health, disease, and aging. He has authored over 50 scientific articles and holds several United States and worldwide patents. His research has been supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the March of Dimes, and the Children’s Research Center of Michigan, among others. Dr. Terlecky has presented his research worldwide, served on study sections for the NIH and the National Science Foundation, and is a regular reviewer of biomedical research for scientific journals.
